A brilliant end to our 2024 season at The Great Orme!
We’ve wrapped up our 2024 PSSA flying season in real style this weekend 19th/20th October, upon The Great Orme, Llandudno, where we have enjoyed 2 very different days wind wise but both blessed with glorious sunshine!
On Saturday – the calmer of the 2 days – saw 25 pilots take an active part in the event flying in 20-25mph SW winds from our most preferred ‘Tank Track’ site. Just about ideal conditions for everything but the heaviest of our models. We flew all day from 09:00 to 17:30 and there were a host of both brand new and well campaigned models on show!
With the amount of good flying achieved we awarded prizes later in the afternoon for ‘Best Flown Jet’, ‘Best Flown Prop’ and ‘Model of the Event’ with the following results – well done to all our winners!
Best Flown Prop – Steve Kemp – Avro Lancaster
Best Flown Jet – John Hey – Heinkel Salamander
Model of the Event – Steve McLaren – BAC Nimrod

On the Sunday we faced much higher winds in the wake of storm ‘Ashley’ with measured gusts of 64mph at the launch point – strong winds indeed for our PSS models but a number of us braved the elements and revelled in some unsurpassed lift and high octane flying!
A big thanks to everyone who travelled and took part over the weekend, another fine show of PSS flying to bring our planned activities for 2024 to an impressive close!
A full report and plenty more photos will be added here on the PSSA site very soon – but for now here’s a little taster of some of the action – and just look at those blue skies for late October!
