PSSA Event Cancellations – COVID-19
As the flying season fast approaches, we have been monitoring the current situation carefully and have fully considered the guidance from the Government and the BMFA regarding the continuation of model flying events from the slopes.
Clearly the COVID-19 situation is developing rapidly in the UK and we should each follow the precautions provided by the NHS – details of which are here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
In general terms our model flying represents a low risk social activity, operating outdoors in the fresh air with plenty of open space. However, as the virus continues to take a firm hold in the UK, and with the most recent containment plans now focussing on the closure of all non-essential social activity, I see no option other than to formally cancel our planned Fly-In events at The Great Orme in April, and at The Bwlch with the SWSA in May.
Our event in June is also in jeopardy, lying just within the 12 week window by which time we hope to have this situation under control. For this reason, whether we run the June event or not, I am moving the planned Sabre Mass Build element back to our September meeting. I’m desperate to run this event to the full, fairly allowing everyone to take part who has built models specifically for this event but currently find themselves unable to travel. More on this later in the year, but for now September 2020 will be the targeted event for the Sabres!
None of these decisions have been taken lightly, but I believe this to be the best course of action for us individually and as an Association.
Stay safe, stay well all,
Phil Cooke – PSSA
