Lipo Battery Fire nearly fatal
This last week, I experienced the sort of thing I have been dreading, but only read about in magazines – a LIPO fire.

The house still stinks of plastic smoke and burning carbon, days later.
With hindsight, I was lucky that the battery was being charged in the fuselage. Looking at the eruption of carbon, I think it exploded but the kevlar and carbon fuselage prevented the flames engulfing the whole workshop. To quote Google “Both Kevlar® and Carbon Fibre are resistant to elevated temperatures. Neither have a melting point. Both Materials have been used for protective clothing and fabrics used near fire.”
I have since bought a LIPO protection bag, a fire blanket and an extra smoke alarm. Sods law, though, it will never happen again – we hope.
Yes, this is what happens when you abuse a lipo over discharging it then ignore the under voltage warning on your charger and restart it without the balance lead.
Good job you didn’t lose your family or house.
