PSS Bomb-Drop Competition

A few words from PSSA member Andy Meade;

With our 30th Anniversary this year, I’ve thought about introducing something a bit different to our events when we are not holding other competitions on the flying days – a PSS Bombing Challenge – some target practice on the slopes!

I propose a 6m diameter rope circle with a bullseye positioned on top of the slope, not too far from the edge. Our plucky bombardiers can then swing through a landing run a ‘few mistakes’ high, and have a go at the target. Points will be marked throughout the year, with a trophy awarded to the winner at the last event on the Great Orme in October.

A SLEC or HobbyKing bomb unit can be purchased for just a few pounds and they are easily fitted to any mid-sized model – note that the HK item comes complete with a release mechanism, but is larger than the SLEC item.

With safety in mind, the bombing area will be placed away from the pits and parking and we may need to have a “bombing only” flying slot depending on the site and the numbers of pilots wanting to take part. Spotters will be also be employed to make sure it is safe to release our loads considering passing walkers or spectators.
