The N.A. XB-70 Valkyrie Collection

Experimental planes have always interested PSS modellers looking for that 'one off' original model.  Not surprisingly, the impressive North American XB-70 bomber has caught the eye of a few designers over the years, here are a few examples of the type.

Simon Cocker hoists his impressive 1/20th scale XB-70 Valkyrie aloft for the camera.

Originally designed and built by Chris Collis, Simon now owns and flies this model to good effect.

It spans 63" and is 82" in length.  Built from veneered white foam and balsa the AUW of this model is relatively low at just 5lbs.

The model is controlled simply using 2-channel R/C and a V-tail mixer to govern the Elevon surfaces at the rear.  The canards are fixed.

Simon Cocker's XB-70 Valkyrie caught in flight on the Bosley Cloud slope in Cheshire.

Model is finished in gloss white film.

Jean-Luc Belon built this example of the XB-70 Valkyrie from the Paul Janssens plans.

It is built to 1/35th scale and has a wingspan of 36".  This model is fitted with drooping wingtips and working canards (as per the full-size design)

It is constructed entirely from balsa and is finished using white film to good effect.  Model flies well in moderate lift.
