The Boeing B-52 Collection

If there ever was a natural choice for a PSS model - it would be the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.  Over the years this model has been successfully modelled at various scales (including 'OVER THE TOP' scale) and is always a popular model wherever it is flown due to its huge presence in the air.  Here are a few examples of this mighty PSS bomber!

A pair of Boeing B-52 models built and flown by John Pearson.

The smaller, silver model is built for PSS from the Ron Greenwood plans and uses conventional balsa construction.

The larger model is designed by John and is constructed mainly from pink foam and covered in glass.  It uses the Clark Y wing section and has an AUW of 27.5lbs.  Engine nacelles are designed to knock off if required  on landing.

Terry Lidstone's beautifully finished 108" span Boeing B-52, built from the Simon Cocker plan pack.

Note the scale wheels - the model can be flown with or without these fitted.

Large scale Boeing B-52 with the X-15 rocket ship stowed under the starboard wing.  This model was designed and built by Simon Cocker in 1988.

The model has a wingspan of 153" and weighs in at 23lbs, whilst maintaining an impressive wing loading of 18.4 oz/sq. ft.  Construction is mostly veneered foam.

The X-15 was successfully launched from the mother ship using radio control and could be flown to ground by another modeller.

A great flying shot of Simon Cocker's smaller 108" span Boeing B-52, seen over the sea off the Great Orme, Llandudno.

All white foam and veneer in construction, the model weighs 12lbs and uses the Eppler 205 wing section.

It is fitted with large flaps which enhance the flight characteristics in light lift.

Engine nacelles are designed to knock off in the event of landing in long grass or heather.

Air Whistles are fitted to the underside of this model providing a realistic jet sound - so you always know when there's another high speed, low altitude bombing run on its way!
