The Boeing 707 Collection

Classic airliners make good PSS models with their large wing areas and small diameter turbo jets.  The Boeing 707 has been well proven off the slope over the years, in both civil and military guise - here are a few examples of the type.

Rick Munsch has sent in pictures of his O/D Boeing 707.

At approx 1/25th scale the model spans 71" and weighs in at 6lb 12oz.

Wing section at the root is S4233 changing to E205 at the inboard engine and outboard to the tip.

Construction is all built up flying surfaces skinned in 1/16th balsa with a frame and white foam fuselage again skinned in balsa.

The quality of finish and level of detail that Rick has achieved can be seen in this close up shot - even the cockpit is fully manned!

The model is covered in a mixture of Solarspan, Solarfilm and Chrome Fibrafilm with some car paint on the wing panels.

It has been finished to represent an early Wardair scheme.

After successfully flying the model as the RAF's AEW platform, Jack Edwards has since refurbished the airframe and finished it in the colours of the original Boeing 707 prototype.

Jack Edwards designed and built this Boeing E-3 Sentry, the military version of the Boeing 707, seen here flying somewhere over the English countryside in 1991.

The AEW radar dish rotated as per its full sized counterpart!
