At first glance the Grumman Bearcat is an unlikely
candidate for PSS, with its stubby wings and huge radial engine cross
section. Despite this it has been well proven off the slope as
demonstrated by the following examples...
Steve Wenbanholds aloft his impressive O/D
Grumman F8F Bearcat.
Based
on the original Ziroli plans but with modification, Steve has
constructed this huge 1/5th scale model using high density foam and
a novel 'slab and former' fuselage construction methodology.
The wings are built up
conventionally and the entire airframe is glassed and sprayed giving
an AUW of 15kg.
Steve's Bearcat captured in flight on its maiden
outing. Model performed very well on it's MH32 wing section.
It is fitted with working flaps and uses crow
breaking effectively to slow things up for landing.

gets up to speed with a team of helpers at the launch point!

Steve has successfully converted the Balsa Craft I/C kit to PSS.
Model spans 45" and
has an AUW of 2lb 12oz.
