The Airbus A380 Collection

Airbus produced the worlds largest airliner, the first full cabin 'double decker' in the shape of the mighty A380 and it didn't take long for PSS modellers to realise this behemoth at a smaller scale for the slope.  Here are a few examples of the type from around the world.

Steve Kemp looking very pleased with his rendition of the Airbus A380, built for PSS from the 72" span Windrider EDF kit.

Model is finished in the current Emirates scheme, with self adhesive decals skillfully cut from vinyl.

Steve elected to cover the wings with cross weave strapping tape for rigidity prior to covering the airframe in Solarfilm.  It has an AUW ready to fly of 78oz.

Detail has been added to the wings and pylons using grey acrylic paint  sealed with jigsaw adhesive, giving a tough, gloss finish.

PSSA member Glenn Salisbury sent us details of his 72" span Windrider A380 currently flying in Australia.

Finished in a hybrid QANTAS scheme (as applied by Airbus as part of a world media tour) the model is finished in Solarfilm over the EPS airframe.

Steve Dorling (L) poses for the camera with Rez Manzoori during the Lleyn MAC PSS Fly-for-Fun meet in May 2007.

Surely the first time that 2 Airbus A380s have been flown together in the UK!

Steve Dorling built this early prototype scheme version of the Airbus A380 from the Windrider EDF kit.

Model was covered in brown paper and PVA before applying the Solarfilm, adding to the AUW but significantly improving the models strength and rigidity.

Another top side pass from Rez Manzoori's Airbus A380!

The model is covered in a combination of Solarfilm and Profilm and is finished in the striking colours of Virgin Atlantic.

Rez made all the decals himself on the home PC, printing them onto self adhesive clear plastic sheet.

Airborne! - the model looks so realistic in flight!  The 4 engines and pylons are designed to knock off on landing and magnets are used to retain them in position on carbon rod mounts.

The model uses 3 Ch radio and 5 servos to control Ailerons, Elevator and Rudder.

Rez Manzoori built this immaculate Airbus A380-800 for PSS from the Windrider EDF kit.  Constructed entirely from white EPS foam the finished model spans an impressive 72" and has an AUW of just 60oz.

This gives the model an impressive wing loading of just 7.4oz/sq ft meaning it can fly in very light lift conditions.  However there's plenty of room to add ballast for windier conditions too!

Rez is seen here holding the model just prior to her maiden flight at The Long Mynd in 2006.
