The ZLIN 526.A "Akrobat"

Once again Jack Edwards has produced a winning design, this time taking first place for Prop. Driven Aircraft at the September Ribble Valley event.

I was so impressed by the performance of this stylish model in light wind conditions, which quickly grounded most models, that more details on the model were requested.  Jack as usual obliged as follows:­

ZLIN Model Details:

Span 60"
Length 44"
AUW 32ozs.

Wing

Eppler 205, chord I I " to 5".

1/4" blue foam ribs on a full depth mainspar of 1/8" balsa with 1/8" square spruce top and bottom.  1/4" leading edge with 1/16" balsa sheet and capping strips on ribs.  1 1/2" balsa ailerons 22 1/2" long.  

 

Tailplane and Fin

1/4" light balsa with 1/32" sheeted blue foam elevators and rudder.  

 

Fuselage :  

From solid white foam with 1/16" balsa sheet cladding on all surfaces.  Engine bay cowling built up with 3/16" balsa sheet to take battery, Rx. and elevator servo.  Aileron servo mounted in the wing centre section.  Wings held with rubber bands on two pegs.  Canopy from a drinks bottle, heat shrunk onto a balsawood mould.

 

Covering :

Red Solarspan on the wings and tailplane with Solarspan sunbursts in yellow.  Fuselage is yellow with red Solarspan trimming.
